Recording of the Week: Marcel Ciampi plays Chopin's Nocturne in C minor

The fascinating thing about this recording by French pianist Marcel Ciampi (1891-1980) is that he plays the work much slower than is usually heard.  Chopin marks his score Lento ('slow').  Ciampi studied with George Falkenberg a former pupil of Georges Mathias who had himself studied with Chopin.

Chopin 'Recording of the Week' highlights gems from the Archival Sound Recordings website, chosen by British Library experts or recommended by listeners. This week's item, originally published in 1928, was selected from the Chopin collection by Jonathan Summers, curator of classical music recordings at the British Library Sound Archive.
